Rosettes and sashes come in all shapes, sizes, and colors—there’s something for everyone! After all, no tournament, competition, or sporting event is complete without a sports award. We all have a mental image of these sports awards. You see them everywhere—sometimes given to winners, sometimes to losers, and sometimes to all participants. You’ve probably even received a sports award yourself at some point. Sports trophies are special because people know so little about them. Yet they’ve been awarded for about 424 years—a fact worth noting for your general knowledge of these wonderful trophies. These are the beautiful prizes participants receive as keepsakes. And what’s more, when a sports trophy is awarded, it encourages the health and productivity of the active athletes among us. So, not a day goes by without a sports trophy!
History
Sports awards have existed since ancient times. The first awards were made of wreaths, ribbons, oak leaves, or olive branches. In ancient times, there was only one award: the grand prize! Starting with the 1996 Olympic Games, awards for the other podium places were introduced. The top prize is gold because it is the most valuable metal. Gold symbolizes divinity and power. Silver symbolizes energy and strength, and bronze symbolizes enthusiasm and caring. There are awards for all sports, which can be personalized in a special way. This way, the sports award for an athletic achievement becomes a cherished memento.
